Ogun police bust pipeline vandals, recover boats,vehicles

Luck ran out for a gang of pipeline vandals on Wednesday as police crack team attached to some commands in Ogun state busted them at Akute Odo area, by Ishasi creek, Akute, in Ifo local government area of the State.

The police operatives attached to Ota Area Command and Ajuwon Division in the state, around 1:00pm, while acting on information, moved to the creek and met the vandals in the act.
Upon sighting the police team, the vandals fled into the sea leaving behind some of their operational items.
In a press statement issued on Friday and signed by the State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, it said some of the items recovered by the police include four operational boats, Boat engines, 7 vehicles, thirty 50 litres, jerry cans, loaded with petrol (PMS).
Also, the police operatives attached to Ogijo division, in Sagamu local government area of Ogun state early this morning, intercepted a truck full of petrol suspected to be vandalised product.
The incident occurred at about 3:30am today.
According to the statement, the driver of the truck, jumped into the bush on sighting the police and abandoned the truck.
The truck is presently being held at the police custody for further investigation, the statement said.
“The command is mindful of the possible increase in activities of vandals at this period, due to the present fuel crises.
“Thus, the police command has put in place measures to protect all vulnerable points and installations and subdue any form of vandalization in the state.
“The Commissioner of Police has however commended the police operatives and members of the public, who alerted the police of the criminal acts of vandals, for their patriotism and selfless service.
“He has ordered thorough investigation into the matter and directed that the hoodlums be apprehended without delay”, the statement reads.
However, the state Commissioner of Police, CP Abdulmajid Ali has assured the good people of Ogun state of proper and efficient policing of the state, particularly, during this yuletide period and beyond.
