Olamide, Timi Dakolo, Reekado Banks win big at The Headies 2015

Afro-pop star Timi Dakolo was the star of the Headies 2015 held Friday, 1 January, 2016.
At the award ceremony held at the Landmark Events Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos, Timi scored a hattrick, taking home The Headies’ Best Male Vocalist, Best R&B Single and Best Recording of the year.

The artiste, who dedicated the awards to the Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, was trailed by YBNL frontsman Olamide with two awards: Best Street Hop and Artiste of the year.
Wizkid also won in the two categories of Best R&B/Pop album and Song of the year (Ojuelegba).
Vector scored a brace with Best Rap Single (King kong) and Lyricist on the Roll which he won back to back for two years.
Aramide was the winner of Best Female Vocalist, while Cynthia Morgan broke the jinx as the first female to win the highly contested Best Ragga/Dancehall Single.
Mavin Records talented act, Korede Bello, won the Best Pop Single with the hit song Godwin.
His labelmate, Reekado Bank won the Next Rated award that has so much generated bad blood between the Mavin Crew and YBNL family.
The music video of Katapot, a hit song by Reekado Banks also won the Best Music Video.
Unlimited LA, the director of the video was the owner of the Headies plaque.
According to excited Unlimited LA, 10 years ago when the award began, he was at the backstage as Camera Assistant but a decade after, he’s picking The Headies.
Other winners are Best Collabo – Reminisce ft. Olamide (Local Rapper); Best Rap Album – M.I; Best Producer – Legendary Beatz; Revelation of the year – Yemi Alade and Best Alternative Song – Shade (Adekunle Gold)
The Headies 2015 Hall of Fame and Lifetime Achievement award went to 2Face Idibia.
Senator Ben Bruce presented the award to 2Face whom he described as one of the best brands out of Nigeria.
Bruce enjoined many up and coming artistes to emulate 2Face who, in spite of his enormous talent, remains so humble.
Super producer Don Jazzy was also given a Special Recognition Award.
In its usual characteristic, the organisers of the Headies failed to keep to the advertised time. While performing to make up the time, Comedian Basketmouth took a serious swipe at the organisers who said they would close the gate for the red carpet to commence. But almost 9pm, the red carpet reception remained scanty.
At 10:14pm, a female flutist, Ebele came on stage to perform the national anthem to finally kickstart the 2015 edition of the award, that spilled into the new year of 2016.
Kaffy followed with a dance drama with her ensemble. As dramatic as her appearance, her co-anchor Bovi who stormed the stage on a hoverboard dressed to mimick popular VJ Denrele Edun.
There was musical collaboration by iconic reggae music star, Majek Fashek, Timi Dakolo and South Africa-based Kunle Ayo.
The recently rehabilitated Majek, while on stage got a standing ovation.
The 2015 Hall of Famer, 2Face also delivered a soul lifting performance of some of his songs.
Stars who also entertained at the awards ceremony in its 10th series were Reminisce, Vector, Adekunle Gold, Falz, Simi and Victoria Kimani.
The highlights of the award ceremony, hosted by celebrity dancer Kaffy and ace stand up comedian Bovi, was the trading of harsh words between the music camps of Mavin Records led by Don Jazzy and YBNL led by rap star, Olamide over the much coveted Next Rated award.
Aside the plaque, the award winner will also be rewarded with a brand new Hyundai car.
