Senate President, Abubakar Bukola Saraki, on Thursday declared his intention to seek the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 2019.

This was contained in a tweet by his media aide, Olu W. Onemola‏ @OnemolaOlu:
Saraki arrived at the Sheraton Hotel, Abuja, where he said he would be meeting with young politicians and aspirants who are interested in running for public office in 2019 under the newly signed #NotTooYoungToRun Act.
During the meeting, Saraki made his intention known that he wanted to contest for the president in 2019 under the banner of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Before declaring for president, Saraki had held series of meeting with former Military President, Ibrahim Babangida; former President, Olusegun Obasanjo; former President, Goodluck Jonathan and others.
In one of the meeting he held with Jonathan, the former president had said, “I am quite pleased with the kind of relationship you have with the House of Representatives members and how you have been able to hold the National Assembly together.”
Saraki, who recently defected from the All Progressives Congress, APC to the PDP, will contest the PDP presidential ticket with a former Governor of Kano State, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso; an ex-Governor of Jigawma State, Sule Lamido and a former Governor of Sokoto State, Attahiru Bafarawa; former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, among others.
