A 20-year-old trader in Jos, Plateau State, Nura Abubakar has been sentenced to seven months in correctional centre for stealing a Nokia phone.

The Prosecution Counsel, Insp Monday Dabit, told the court that the case was reported on March 17, at the “A” Division Police Station by one Ana’s Yusuf, the complainant.

Dabit said that Abubakar and his friends now at large started a fight, and in the process stole the Nokia phone valued at N4500 from the complainant.

The offence, he said, was punishable under the Plateau State Penal Code Law.

The Magistrate, Shawomi Bokkos sentenced Abubakar after he pleaded guilty to the charge.

Bokkos said the punishment would serve as deterrent to others who would want to indulge in the same act.

The convict was however given an option of fine of N5,000, and also ordered to pay a compensation of N4,000 to the complainant.
