Tight Security in Ondo State Ahead of Visit by Vice President Kashim Shettima

The Nigeria Police Force in Ondo State has intensified security operations in Akure ahead of the official visit of Vice President Kashim Shettima, who is expected to inaugurate the Onyearugbulem Flyover project executed under Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s administration.

The Vice President is also scheduled to visit Afenifere leader Pa Reuben Fasoranti at his residence as part of activities marking his 100th birthday celebration.

Speaking on the security arrangements, Police Public Relations Officer DSP Abayomi Jimoh told the News Agency of Nigeria that a comprehensive security architecture had been deployed to ensure a peaceful and hitch-free visit.

He said the command had put in place “watertight” measures to guarantee the safety of the Vice President, the centenarian celebrant, and all guests attending the events.

According to him, the deployment includes personnel from the Police Mobile Force (PMF), tactical units, and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal–Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) squad, strategically positioned across key locations in Akure.

He added that the aim is to prevent any security breach and ensure a smooth and orderly celebration.

Meanwhile, operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Federal Road Safety Corps, and the Amotekun Corps were also seen deployed along major roads leading to Fasoranti’s residence to support crowd control and traffic management.

The Onyearugbulem Flyover, which is set to be commissioned during the visit, was originally flagged off in July 2023 by the late former Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.
