Several people are feared dead and many others injured after gunmen attacked mourners during a mass burial in Plateau State. The victims had gathered in Nding Fan District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area to bury seven residents killed in an earlier assault on the community.
According to eyewitnesses, the attackers reportedly emerged from surrounding hills and opened fire on mourners as graves were being dug, causing panic and forcing residents to flee. Local sources said at least five nearby communities were simultaneously under attack.
A journalist who witnessed the incident said local defenders armed with hunting rifles were overwhelmed by the gunmen, while rescue efforts are ongoing to assist trapped residents and determine the full casualty figure.
