FG Condemns Xenophobia, Warns South Africa Over Nigerians’ Safety

Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, has condemned the alleged harassment, bullying, and extra-judicial killings of Nigerians in South Africa amid renewed xenophobic tensions. Following anti-migrant protests in Durban, the Federal Government said it is prioritizing the evacuation of Nigerians willing to return home and warned that attacks on foreigners could threaten diplomatic relations between both nations.

The minister also revealed that Nigerian children in South Africa, including mixed-nationality children known as “Sougerians,” are reportedly facing discrimination and bullying in schools. South African authorities, led by Foreign Affairs Minister Ronald Lamola, have pledged to address the situation and ensure the protection of affected citizens.
